Hello! welcome to my lovely blog! on this blog, I will talk about some of the things we, as autistic people, face in day to day life! I will also post some of my own reviews of products that I am sent or that I have bought that are related to autism. this could be sensory toys or items that might help me with my autism and might give you some ideas about what might help you.
with all of that being said, Hello, my name is Lee, I am 27 Years old and I have autism. although I hate the use of “high functioning” and “low functioning” when I was diagnosed I was classified as High functioning due to my intellectual abilities.
I was diagnosed at the age of 24 in March 2016, not too long before my 25th birthday, after spending years feeling different but being unsure how to define my difficulties, having that formal diagnosis really helped me to define what was going on and also identify the help and support I may need.
enough of the formal diagnosis stuff – I am a bright and creative person! I am currently learning to code/ programme for video games, apps and web. I adore video games and always have! my favourites are Overwatch and Minecraft! (if anyone plays either of those on PC and would like to play sometime let me know!)
I am obsessed with YouTube- it’s my go-to whenever I need to chill out and unwind from a tough day! my favourite YouTubers are Jacksepticeye, Kevin Chapman, My Virgin Kitchen, The King of Random, Shane Dawson, The Bevos, Clintus.TV and Markiplier – there are so many more listing them would take forever!
I adore Foxes and Cats – another big obsession of mine!
Although I am 27 years old, my mental age is much lower than that sometimes I fit into the 10-12 bracket and sometimes I fit into the 16+ bracket – I don’t ever pretend to be those ages as that would be deceptive! but a lot of my likes, interests, downtime activities and other favourite things are all typically the likes and interests of a child/teenager! I can’t help acting like a child because inside I am a child!
my favourite bands are Coheed and Cambria, Reel Big Fish, Mad Caddies, Antiflag, Volbeat- basically, anything ska punk, metal or rock and I will enjoy it!
I also love Baseball and ice hockey, my favourite teams are the Arizona Diamondbacks (baseball) and the Vancouver Canucks (ice hockey) I follow them mostly but when it comes to ice hockey I just enjoy watching it! I play for a baseball team here in the UK called the Newcastle Nighthawks but i am currently on what is known as the disabled list because I have a knee injury which prevents me from running (to cut a long story short, I came tumbling off my skateboard and hit my knee on solid concrete damaging the cartilage in my knee – it now makes a gross grinding sound when it moves!)
